NEO OTA Update Procedure - requires adb and fastboot to be installed and working on your machine

Each line below with # is a command. "# adb devices" would mean you run the command "adb devices", sans quotes

  • Turn on your OnePlus device
    • # adb devices
  • Plug in device to computer usb
    • # adb devices
  • Ensure your device comes up the list after a few seconds of being plugged in
    • # adb reboot bootloader
  • Allow device to reboot to bootloader
    • # fastboot oem unlock
  • Reboot phone
    • # adb reboot bootloader
  • Wipe all data (music, pictures, etc)
    • Reboot phone

After the no sim message (if no sim) and wifi selection, put in the url https://openpilot.comma.ai. Click continue, let the magic happen. This process can take some time, so be patient.

After some time, a message saying a NEOS update is available will appear. Ensure wifi is active, and click continue, and the download will start. The download will take some time, but only happens once. If you have to reboot, the files should stay and will only need to be verified. The phone will reboot and show the android avatar with a spinning geometric sphere. This is the installation process taking place.

The phone will reboot again, showing the new comma boot spinner.

  • Once you get to the new home screen, do:
    • # adb devices
  • replug device into computer usb
    • # adb devices
  • ensure your device comes up the list after a few seconds of being plugged in
    • # adb reboot bootloader
  • allow device to reboot to bootloader
    • # fastboot oem lock

This will re-lock the bootloader, which is optional, but will get rid of the nag on boot up. You may get an error saying the device isn't validated after locking again. Let the timer runout, and the phone will reboot. You're done!

Long "loading..." screen times are normal. Please be patient.
